Association Objective
To represent the interests of Latvian fish processing industry producers of the traditional product – canned fish “Rīgas šprotes in oil” and “Riga Sardine” – in the Republic of Latvia and abroad;
To promote the popularity, recognition, and prestige of the Product in both Latvian and foreign markets;
To oversee the production process of the Product, ensuring high and consistent quality as well as modern packaging;
To ensure the maintenance and protection of the Association’s intellectual property, including collective trademarks Rīgas šprotes eļļā, Rīgas šprotes and Riga Sardine in Latvia and abroad.
To achieve the above goals, the Association carries out the following, as well as other, tasks that are not of a profit-making nature:
- Develops recommendations for ensuring product quality and modern packaging, compliance with environmental protection requirements, Rational use of raw materials, production waste, packaging, and coordinates their implementation among member companies.
- Provides members with information and consultations regarding production processes, raw materials, packaging, waste management and disposal, and staff qualification improvement;
- Organizes joint advertising campaigns for the Association members;
- Organizes participation of the Association in exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad;
- Develops promotional materials for the Association members;
- Establishes unified quality standards for products marked with the Association trademarks and monitors compliance;
- Cooperates, within its mandate and in connection with the Association defined goals, with other fisheries and food industry organizations in Latvia and abroad, as well as with government, municipal, international, and other public organizations;
- Develops trademark regulations for registering the Association’s trademarks abroad.
Membership legal entities registered in the Republic of Latvia, engaged in the processing and canning of fishery products, may join the Association by submitting a written application.
Applicant production facilities must:
Be certified in accordance with the Food Chain Supervision Law,
Be registered with the Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia,
Have an implemented and functioning HACCP system.
